පසුගිය සැප්තැම්බර් 09 වනදා අළුයම ශ්රී ලංකා ගුවන් හමුදාව විසින් කොටි ත්රස්තවාදීන් සතු Zlin Z-143 වර්ගයේ සැහැල්ලු ගුවන් යානාවක් මුලතිව් වලට ඉහළ අහසේදී පහරදී විනාශ කරන ලදි. මෙය ශ්රී ලංකා ගුවන් හමුදා ඉතිහාසයේ සන්ධිස්ථානයක් මෙන්ම දෙවන ලෝක යුද්ධයෙන් පසු මෑතකාලීන ලෝක ඉතිහාසයේද ප්රථම ගුවනේ සිට ගුවනට එල්ල කරන ලද පළමු ප්රහාරය වේ. දෙවන ලෝක යුද්ධයේදී සතුරු ගුවන් යානා විනාශ කිරීම සඳහා විවිධ රටවල් වල ගුවන් හමුදා විසින් ගුවනේ සිට ගුවනට එල්ල කරන ලද ප්රහාර වලින් පසු ප්රථම වතාවට එවන් ප්රහාරයක් සිදුකරන්නේ ශ්රී ලංකා ගුවන් හමුදාවේ ගුවන් නියමුවන් විසිනි. ඊට හේතුව දැනට ගුවන් යානා යොදාගනිමින් ප්රහාර එල්ල කරන සතුරන් සිටින්නේ ශ්රී ලංකාවට පමණක් වීමය.
කොටි ත්රස්තවාදීන් සතුව Zlin Z-143 වර්ගයේ සැහැල්ලු ගුවන් යානා 2ක් හෝ 3ක් ඇති අතර Robinson වර්ගයේ කුඩා හෙලිකොප්ටර් යානාවක් හෝ දෙකක්ද ඇති බවට වාර්තා වී ඇත. කොටින් විසින් එම Zlin වර්ගයේ සැහැල්ලු ගුවන් යානා වෙනස් කර ගුවන් ප්රහාර එල්ල කිරීම සඳහා ප්රහාරක යානා වශයෙන් සකස් කරගෙන ඇත.

Its the first time since WW2 that a propeller driven aircraft has been shot down.
Its a great achievement because, modern fighter jets are not designed or equipped to handle slow moving propeller driven craft.
After WW2 dogfights have taken place in Korea, Vietnam and the Middle East, but all were between jet aircraft.
So well done SLAF!!!
Similarly commendable is the SLN feat of sinking the LTTE ships in high seas. The last time such a thing happened was during WW2.

No I guess, I don't think there were dogfights between 2 parties who had Jet air crafts in world history.
This is the first air-to-air attack of Jet era in a real situation. isn't it?

Yeah,nice job defending the motherland. The SLAF must produce more aces to deal with upcoming threats.And where's those bloody Fulcrums?.
